Ignite! Festival of Contemporary Dance 2015 invites applications from young professionals associated with dance and the movement arts who are interested in participating in the conference by joining the festival support team. Successful applicants will be absorbed into the running of the conference and festival, where they will gain first-hand experience in administration, communications and human relations – besides gaining invaluable insight into the minds of some of the most outstanding choreographers of our times.
IGNITE! 2015 kicks off with Joining the Dots: Points of Shift, Pause, Discontinuity or Rupture, a conference scheduled to be held from January 13 – 15, 2015 at Goethe-Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi. Joining the Dots works towards mapping the idea of the ‘contemporary’ in dance by investigating the multiple processes of making dance work in our times. The conference proposes a series of deep engagements with individual dance makers who have very perceptibly forged a distinct identity for themselves both within and in contrast to the contexts they work in. Unique in that it is a dance ‘conference’ designed by artists, it privileges the voice of the practitioner, with various engagement formats that coalesce around the binding theme of ‘process’. It seeks to connect with dance practitioners and professionals across boundaries of form, genre or region of work. Conversations along these lines could then be the starting point for an inclusive network of people deeply invested in dance in India and in its future possibilities. Joining the Dots is co-curated by Ranjana Dave and Vikram Iyengar, and organised by Gati Dance Forum (New Delhi) in collaboration with Dance dialogues in Bombay (Mumbai).
From January 15 – 18, 2015, IGNITE! continues with performances, master classes, film screenings, exhibitions, workshops and discussions with national and international choreographers. IGNITE! is a biennale that aims to give high-quality Indian contemporary dance public visibility, showcase creativity and innovation in Indian dance, support the development of vibrant, new artistic work and facilitate collaborations amongst a wide range of dance organizations in the country. True to its name, this festival aims to ignite a debate on contemporary dance theory and galvanize public opinion on arts and cultural policy through intensive seminars, network meetings and informal discussions.
